Letter to the editor:

Social Security cap applies to payouts as well

Tuesday, June 21, 2011 | 2:03 a.m.

In his letter Sunday, Paul Carman suggested that we should remove the cap on Social Security payments because it “is creating a privileged rich class.”

What he doesn’t mention is that the Social Security payouts are also capped. Therefore, you will receive money based on the amount that you have contributed up to that cap. How does this “create a privileged rich class”? Everyone is treated the same based on the amount contributed up to the cap on both payments in and payments received.

I do believe that we have to do something about Social Security, but taking money from some of the people to give to others is not the solution.

  1. we've got a lot of eightballs and meatballs throwing out crap about SS and medicare how its going to bankrupt our government and create TRILLIONS in deficits. its the same hogwash as the bush tax cuts and war in iraq and death panels that the neocons love to spew. establish a national flat tax that makes EVERYONE pay including general electric, exxon and jerry fink. eliminate off shore loop holes, business expenses and mortgage deductions so the poorest to our wealthiest can enjoy participating in our great democracy. establish a tax credit for every active year of military service rewarding past present and future veterans with a one time tax writeoff of $25000 per active year.( limit 4) lets get this country moving again instead of turning into a bunch of fat assed whiners complainers and wannabes.

  2. dont forget, americans voted for nixon and bush TWICE, they're not the sharpest people on this planet.

  3. ::::::::::::::::::

    Social Security is perfect to 2037 and after that all that it needs would be to scrap the cap ... wake up

    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    There's coffee in the pot and tea in the tea bag and lots of solutions if only the Enron Party would end their corruption

    Ola. Where are the jobs Boenher .... where is all that ' trickle ' we have heard about for 50 years?

  4. dipstick - "dont forget, americans voted for nixon and bush TWICE, they're not the sharpest people on this planet."

    I'll buy that, as a whole we keep making the same mistakes. What does it tell us when out of 50 women vying for the Miss USA title, only two believe in evolution? Would you expect our education system to be on par with other countries after learning that fact?

    Tommy Lee Jones - Men in Black:

    "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Everything they've ever "known" has been proven to be wrong. A thousand years ago everybody knew as a fact, that the earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew that the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on it. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow."
